PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - TO UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN ABIA CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT




We wish to notify all eligible undergraduate students within Abia Central Senatorial District about the opportunity to apply for the Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation Educational Scholarship.


Eligibility Criteria:


1. Applicants must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent, for universities or other tertiary institutions, during their first academic session (i.e., First Year). 


2. Candidates currently in their second year (200 Level) at any public tertiary institution in Nigeria are eligible. Applicants must be in their second year at the time of application and must have been admitted in the 2022/2023 academic session. For institutions such as the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan, which experienced a disrupted academic calendar, the criteria for the 2021/2022 admission year may not apply.


3. Individuals who have recently obtained direct entry admission into the second year (and will maintain this status by the end of April 2024) are encouraged to apply.


4. Applicants must provide a statement of results for their first academic session (i.e., First Year), authenticated by the Department/Faculty’s Administrative Officer. Direct entry candidates must submit the qualifying results that granted them direct entry admission.


5. Candidates must furnish a letter of endorsement from their community/religious leader or recent electricity bills spanning the last three months before the interview month, as evidence of residency within Abia Central Senatorial District.


6. Submission of a 1200-word essay, divided into three sections, is required. The essay should address: (a) Express gratitude and rationale; (b) Reflect on a significant regret or poor decision, and propose alternative actions for similar circumstances; and (c) Discuss the most pivotal decision in their life, accompanied by justification.


7. Applicants must provide valid identification documents.

The Federal Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the N-Power program.

 The Federal Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the N-Power program. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, made the announcement while featuring on a TVC news program on Saturday. She said the decision was birthed by some irregularities within the scheme, noting that the government has launched investigation into the utilization of funds since the program began. The Minister claimed that some of the beneficiaries are not found in their place of assignments yet they expect monthly stipends. According to her, some of the beneficiaries ought to have exited the program since 2022 but are still on the payroll. She said, “We must go back to look into N-Power and understand what the problems are so we will basically suspend the programe for now until we are done with proper investigation into the utilization of fund into the N-Power program.
